Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains how PixMovo handles your files, what data we collect (and what we don't), and your rights under privacy regulations including GDPR and CCPA. Last updated: August 17, 2026.
File processing and retention
When you upload a file to PixMovo for conversion, the following happens:
- The file is uploaded to our server over HTTPS and placed in a UUID-named directory owned by a dedicated, unprivileged system user. The directory name is unguessable and not linked to your IP address, browser fingerprint, or any other identifier.
- The file is converted by an open-source tool (ImageMagick, FFmpeg, libheif, poppler-utils, or rembg depending on the operation). The conversion runs in a subprocess with no network access and no ability to write outside the task directory.
- Once converted, the result is available for download via a one-time token. The token is consumed atomically when you download the file, meaning the download link works exactly once. If you lose the link or close the page before downloading, you must re-upload and convert the file.
- The entire task directory (input files, converted outputs, and any intermediate artifacts) is deleted from our server within 15 minutes of the upload timestamp, regardless of whether you downloaded the result. There is no way to extend this window, no trash folder, and no backup. After 15 minutes, the files are gone.
- By default, EXIF and other image metadata (GPS coordinates, camera model, author tags) are stripped from converted images. You can opt to preserve metadata via the converter UI, but the default is removal. Video and PDF conversions do not currently strip metadata.
Accounts and authentication
PixMovo does not require accounts. We do not collect email addresses, passwords, usernames, or any form of persistent user identity. You do not need to log in to use any tool on the site.
Analytics and tracking
We use minimal analytics to understand how the site is used and to catch errors:
- Web server logs (Nginx) record IP addresses, request paths, timestamps, user agents, and HTTP status codes. These logs are rotated and deleted after 7 days.
- Client-side JavaScript errors are not sent to any third-party service. If the site breaks, we see it in server logs when you retry the request.
- We do not use browser fingerprinting, device IDs, or any form of cross-site tracking. No third-party analytics scripts (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.) are loaded on PixMovo pages.
Advertising
PixMovo shows ads from Google AdSense on some pages to cover server costs. How ads work:
- Ads are only loaded if you explicitly consent via the cookie banner. If you decline, no ad scripts are loaded, no ad-related cookies are set, and the conversion tools remain fully available.
- Google AdSense may serve personalized ads based on your browsing history across other websites. This is controlled by Google's own privacy settings and ad choices (available at https://adssettings.google.com/). PixMovo does not see, store, or share your ad preferences.
- Ads appear on tool pages (e.g., /converter, /compress, /resize) but never on legal pages (/privacy, /terms, /about, /contact).
Cookies
PixMovo uses cookies for essential site functionality and optional features:
- Locale preference (NEXT_LOCALE): Stores your chosen language so the site remembers it across page loads. This cookie is essential for the site to work correctly if you choose a non-default language.
- Cookie consent choice: If you accept or decline optional cookies via the banner, we store your choice in a cookie so we don't ask again on every page load.
- Optional cookies (if you accept): Google AdSense sets cookies to serve and measure ads. These cookies are third-party cookies and are only set if you accept optional cookies in the banner.
- You can clear cookies at any time via your browser settings. Clearing cookies will reset your language preference and cookie consent choice.
Your rights under GDPR (European users)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights:
- Right to access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Because PixMovo does not require accounts and does not store user profiles, the only personal data we may have is your IP address in server logs (deleted after 7 days).
- Right to rectification: You can request correction of inaccurate data. Because we do not store user profiles, this right does not apply to PixMovo.
- Right to erasure: You can request deletion of your data. Your uploaded files are automatically deleted within 15 minutes. Your IP address in server logs is deleted after 7 days. If you want immediate erasure of your IP from logs, contact us (see below) with the approximate time of your visit and the page you accessed.
- Right to restriction of processing: You can request that we stop processing your data. Because we do not store user profiles or track users across sessions, this right does not apply to PixMovo.
- Right to data portability: You can request your data in a machine-readable format. Because we do not store user profiles, this right does not apply to PixMovo.
- Right to object: You can object to processing of your data. Because we do not use your data for profiling, marketing, or automated decision-making, this right does not apply to PixMovo.
- Right to lodge a complaint: You can file a complaint with your national data protection authority if you believe we have violated your privacy rights.
Your rights under CCPA (California users)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- Right to know: You can request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you in the past 12 months. For PixMovo, this is limited to your IP address in server logs (retained for 7 days).
- Right to delete: You can request deletion of your personal information. Your uploaded files are automatically deleted within 15 minutes. Your IP address in server logs is deleted after 7 days.
- Right to opt out of sale: PixMovo does not sell your personal information to third parties. This right does not apply.
- Right to non-discrimination: PixMovo will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights. All tools remain available regardless of your privacy choices.
Third-party services
PixMovo uses the following third-party services that may process your data:
- Google AdSense (optional, only if you consent): Serves ads on tool pages. Google's privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- We do not use any other third-party services. No CDN (Cloudflare, Fastly), no analytics (Google Analytics, Mixpanel), no error tracking (Sentry, Rollbar), no email service (SendGrid, Mailgun), no payment processor (Stripe, PayPal). The site runs on a single VPS with no external dependencies beyond Google AdSense.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the 'Last updated' date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced via a banner on the site. Continued use of PixMovo after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
